Hounds Hit PRs Galore at IU, UIndy Winter Break Meet

INDIANAPOLIS – It was the last pair of indoor meets of the calendar year for UIndy track & field this past Friday and Saturday, and the Greyhounds could not have ended the year better with both sides of the team notching a plethora of personal records.

HOOSIER OPEN
On Friday, a few of the top athletes from the team traveled south to Bloomington, Ind, the home of Indiana University, for the Hoosier Open. Berenice Cleyet-Merle headlined the group with another impressive performance, capturing the mile victory with a time of 4:40.49, which also places her as the top runner in the country across all divisions.

Claire Eaton, who comes off an all-conference cross country season, finished third in the 3000-meter race, which was good enough for a PR and an NCAA provisional mark. On the men's side of the 3000-meter, both AJ Goecker and Will Reid posted quality times coming in at sixth and eighth, both being PRs.

Wrapping up the top finishes from IU, Zoe Pentecost, who has been on a tear so far this year, continued her streak with another winning finish in the weight throw. She tossed 19:07 meters for her second 19-plus toss of the season to top numerous Division I throwers.

UINDY WINTER BREAK MEET
Saturday came and the fun came with it as the ARC was filled with family and friends for the UIndy Winter Break Meet. The hurdlers came to compete, with Sam DeWitt posting a quality time of 8:22 in the 60-meter hurdles for the win, while Ailliyah Reese took the victory on the women's side.

For the 60-meter sprints, Sheniya Brown led the Hounds with a time of 7:90, which tied her for first in the event while DeWitt led the men's side with a 7.14 finish.

On the men's side of the mile, this time at home in the ARC, Harnoor Dosanjh broke the sub-4:30 mark with a time of 4:28.87 to win the event.

A little history was made as an event that has not been ran at UIndy in a very long time, the men's 2000-meter steeplechase, was brought out with the trio of Goecker, Reid and Hayden Baldwin taking on the three-foot-tall wood barriers. For a new school record, Goecker came out on top with a time of 5:56.98.

Eline Pinter and Ellie Lengerich took on the 800 meter, coming in at first and second in the event with some help from Cleyet-Merle as the rabbit. In the men's 200, it was a youth show with Josiah Adams hitting a PR with a time of 22:80 to win the event.

Finishing up the track side was the 4x400 relay crews. For the men's side, the team of Adams, Trent Arnold, Alexander Brown-Baez and Aaron Moody crossed the line first with a time of 3:31.40, while the team of Trinity Gleitz, Gabrielle Harrell, Mariah Judy and Hannah Wells won for the women's event.

The field events were a show as well with the throwers having an incredible day with a combined eight PRs. For the men's weight throw, Taylor Sadkowski was the top finisher with a 15.99-meter PR. He was followed by Jacob Brouse, who tossed 15.81 for a PR of his own. Tyler Gilbert, Evan Gaylor and Parker Lucas all hit PRs as well in the shot put, with Gilberts toss of 15.65 meters being good enough for UIndy's top finish. Audra Hogan, Michaela Adams and MaKenna Maschino all hit PRs in the weight throw.

For women's pole vault, Brittney Clark and Lauren Joseph both had quality performances to build on last week's meet. The men's side had Treyton Arnold lead the squad with a 4.48 vault. Ellie Lengerich went over to long jump where she captured the win in the event with a 5.38-meter leap.
