INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy track & field squads are up and ready to go once again for the indoor season, kicking off this Friday Dec. 3 at the GVSUÂ Holiday Open. That is not the only competition the Greyhounds will see this weekend, as they host their own UIndy Season Opner Meet very next day on Dec. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in the ARC.Â
The Hounds are coming off a historic indoor seasonÂ
last year which saw
Lauren Bailey bring home the national championship in the 5000-meter race, becoming just the second-ever Greyhound woman to win an indoor individual title. Fans did not have to wait long for the third, as
Berenice Cleyet-Merle won the 800-meter championship just one day later.
Cleyet-Merle is set to return this year to defend her 800 title. She'll be joined by
Ben Nagel, who captured the
NCAA DII Indoor Elite 90 Award winter as part of a breakout season.
Brittney Clark, who was the lone field member of the Hounds to qualify for indoor nationals, is also returning. Clark set a new school record last season in the indoor pole vault with a mark of 3.98 meters.Â
Here from the team about the the high level of preparation and excitement as the season approaches
here.
