NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - After a sudden end to the 2020 season, the UIndy women's lacrosse team will kick off the 2021 campaign sporting with its highest-ever preseason ranking from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) with a No. 6 ranking in NCAA Division II.

The current sixth-place ranking matches the Greyhounds' highest overall position in the coaches poll and also includes their first-ever first-place vote. Over the past two seasons, the Hounds posted a combined 25-3 record and have been ranked in the top 10 for the last six weeks dating back to last February. 

Head coach James Delaney is now in his fourth season with the team, as is assistant coach Erin Abbott. Graduate assistant Abbie McEntee enters her second season on the staff.

UIndy returns three All-Americans from last season, including Peyton Romig (draw specialist) and Abigail Lagos (attack), alongside three-time All-GLIAC First Teamer Riley McClure (defender).

The 2019 DII National Champions, Adelphi Panthers, collected four first-place votes to top the preseason list, while GLVC-rival Lindenwood was one point behind them with a DII-leading 10 first-place votes. In total, the Greyhounds currently have two top-10 teams on their 2021 schedule, and three from the top 25.

UIndy kicks off the program's sixth season on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Concordia-St. Paul at Key Stadium.
