NEW ORLEANS -Â As the UIndy track & field teams make their final preparations for the upcoming NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships next week, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their annual regional award list on Friday, where assistant coach
Brad Robinson was presented the Women's Assistant Coach of the Year in the Midwest Region. Robinson was named the
DII Assistant Coach of the Year last season, making this a second-straight year of being honored as an assistant coach.
Each of the eight regions – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – honored both genders' top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches. Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
The Greyhounds currently sit as the No. 11 team in Division II, holding steady in the top 12 for the last couple weeks. They'll look to make a splash at the upcoming NCAA Championships in four events, taking three student-athletes for the trip. The Hounds will have a shot at crowning at least one national champion, as they are seeded within the meet's top three participants in three different events.
Lauren Bailey ranks third in the 3000 meter and sits as the top seed in the 5000 meter, while
Berenice Cleyet-Merle is DII's fastest 800 meter student-athlete, currently.
Brittney Clark will also compete for the Hounds at the national championships in the pole vault, where she is currently ranked 13th overall.
The 2021 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place down south in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-13. The first event to kick off the weekend will be the men's 60 meter, the first race starting at 12 P.M.
