Women’s Lacrosse Inches Up DII’s Rankings

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Following their third win in the first three games of the young season, the UIndy women's lacrosse team (3-0, 0-0 GLVC) once again earned their highest ranking in program history by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Monday, reaching up to the No. 3 spot in Division II. The Greyhounds switched spots on the rankings with now No. 4 Le Moyne after they won their match on Saturday against Findlay.

The Hounds tallied five first-place votes in the rankings, two more then's last week's poll when they were No. 4 overall. Prior to Monday's release, the Greyhounds' No. 4 ranking was their highest placing all-time, now that mark being reset after their 22-3 performance over Findlay at Key Stadium. Following DII National Player of the Week honors, Abigail Lagos remains the team's leading scorer through the three games, netting 14 goals with her two assists to tie the team's top spot at 16 points. Lagos shares the top mark in points with Sarah Klein, the team's leading student-athlete in assists (7) along with nine goals so far this season.

UIndy has already received individual nation recognition for the last two weeks, garnering DII Player of the Week honors three times so far. Senior Peyton Romig was awarded a defensive honor a couple weeks ago after a 12 draw control performance over No. 22 Concordia-St. Paul, while Lagos (offensive) and goalkeeper Cassidy King (defensive) received honors last week after their win over No. 4 Queens (N.C.). UIndy was featured in the Nike/US Lacrosse rankings for Division II, sitting in the No. 2 spot for the second week in a row.

The Hounds aren't alone in the rankings from the GLVC, as conference-rival Lindenwood remained in their No. 2 spot for another week. The two programs are the only GLVC teams within the top-25, but will not meet for competition until Thursday, April 22.

The Greyhounds will next take on Notre Dame College, staying in Indianapolis for the matchup against the Falcons. The two will play on Saturday, March 13 at Key Stadium, lining up for the first draw control at 12 p.m.
