NOBLESVILLE , Ind. – The UIndy men's golf team (296-297-294) used a strong finish and some clutch putts to earn the team title at the first-ever Ken Partridge Invitational Monday and Tuesday, held at nearby Purgatory Golf Club. Greyhound quintet combined to shoot three-under par on the 18th hole Tuesday to leapfrog runner-up Grand Valley State for the team title.
The tournament was named in honor of UIndy Hall of Famer Ken Partridge. The Greyhound legend served as the UIndy men's golf coach for 40 years before his retirement in 2006.
Needing one last push to overtake Grand Valley, the final three Hounds recorded a birdie on 18 to secure the comeback win.
Erik Edwards,
Oliver Mast and finally
Keegan Bronnenberg each delivered a clutch birdie on the 543-yard, par-5 final hole.
Edwards was the lone Greyhound to post a red number on the week, employing a third-round 71 to finish the tournament at +4 to share seventh place. The Louisville, Ky., native birdied four of his final six holes to lead the comeback charge.
Bronnenberg (73-75-74) and
Ian Carroll (74-76-72) each finished at +6 to tie for 13th, while Mast (74-74-77) shared 27th and
Spencer Klimek (79-74-80) tied for 58th.
Meanwhile,
Cam Carroll topped the UIndy "Grey" team with an 11-over 227 to tie for 35th. Freshman
Bryce Robertson (+15) carded a third-round 73 to land at T-52.
