LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After dropping their last contest in a rematch against Rockhurst, the No. 14 UIndy men's lacrosse team (7-2, 7-2 GLVC) hold steady inside the recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Coaches' top-15, the association announced on Monday. The 9-5 loss at Kansas City, Mo. last week was only the program's second loss of the season.
Matt Schoeneck was the squad's leading scorer during their last contest, the junior earning a hat trick in the second half alone to keep the Greyhounds' in the close contest. The Hawks blasted 39 shots at goalkeeper Austin Barnett, the former GLVC Defensive Player of the Week saving 11 of those shots against Rockhurst. Freshman defender Dougie Crawford was able to spring offensive chances for the Greyhounds, the Keswick, Ontario-native totaling a career-high six ground balls in the contest.
UIndy ranks among the best in the nation on both sides of the ball, sitting inside DII's top-10 in a handful of statistical categories. The Hounds have made the most on their advantages on offense, running the sixth-best offense in man-up situations, converting those possessions into goals almost 53 percent of the time. On the flip side, their defense causes a plethora of problems for opposing offense, the Hounds rank as the eighth-best team in Division II for causing turnovers with a 11.56 average per contest. Their defense is buffed by Barnett who sits at the ninth spot in DII in goals allowed, only letting 8.48 goals per game run past him.
The Hounds aren't alone in the top-20 teams this week, Lindenwood staying put at the No. 9 slot for another week. Maryville remains as the third team to sit inside the rankings, currently tied for the 18th-place spot by the coaches.
The Greyhounds will face off against the top-ranked team in the GLVC this week in No. 9 Lindenwood, hosting the Lions at Key Stadium. That contest in Indianapolis will take place on Saturday, April 24, kicking off at 3 p.m.
