INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in the
Holly Cox era, the UIndy women's soccer team is heading to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament semifinals. After defeating the seventh-seeded Truman Bulldogs in double overtime,
1-0, on Monday, the Hounds will face the third-seeded University of Southern Indiana on Friday in St. Charles, Mo., at 6 p.m. ET.
UIndy offensively has been led by
Kiki Sauceda, who has posted three goals and three assists, while 2020-21 GLVC Defensive Player of the Year
Dana Youssef has contributed two goals and been a playmaker with four assists – leading the Hounds.
Taylor Peck has continued to be a force as well for the Hounds with suburb footwork, notching two goals and two assists.
The Greyhounds have been rotating goalkeepers throughout the season with
Laura Shake, most recently
Makaiah Haberkorn, as well as
Sophia Saucerman, who leads UIndy with five wins in net while posting 21 saves.
UIndy has scored an average of 1.07 goals per game, while keeping its opponents held to 0.53 goals per game in the 2020-21 season. The Greyhounds have earned a shots on goal percentage of .436
SCOUTING THE SCREAGLES
In the last matchup between the Greyhounds and USI, the Hounds came out victorious,
2-1, on the Eagles' home turf. After an early USI lead, the Hounds fought back in the second half and
Hannah Gamble scored a last-minute game winner to take the win from the rival.
Southern Indana has been strong defensively by holding its opponents to only 0.53 goals per game, while scoring 2.13. The Eagles are led by Maggie Winter, who has posted 16 goals on the season off 42 shots and added seven assists. USI most recently took the over Rockhurst in the GLVC quarterfinals, 3-1.
