INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy softball team officially punched its ticket to yet another postseason Sunday night, as the NCAA Division II Softball Committee announced the field for the upcoming NCAA DII Championships. The Greyhounds earned the No. 2 seed in the Midwest bracket, extending their region-best streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances to 13.
Technically, UIndy had already earned an AQ to the regional as winners of last week's
GLVC Tournament; only its seeding needed to be decided. The Hounds will be joined in the six-team, double-elimination bracket by top-seeded and GLIAC-champ Grand Valley State, as well as 3-6 seeds Northwood, Trevecca Nazarene, Hillsdale and Ohio Dominican (G-MAC champ).
The 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional gets underway Wednesday, May 19 from the GVSU campus in Allendale, Mich. The Greyhounds will wait to take the field on Thursday at 1:30 p.m., facing the winner of Northwood/Ohio Dominican matchup. The Midwest champion will be crowned on Saturday, May 22 and will move on to the NCAA DII Championships in Denver May 27-31.
