JOLIET, Ill. – UIndy senior
Lauren Bailey added to an already impressive collegiate resume, breaking the program's five-year-old 10K record by more than two minutes. The distance standout posted one of a number of notable performances for the Greyhounds at a pair of Last Chance meets over the weekend.
Competing at the Fighting Chance Meet at University of Saint Francis, Bailey ran her 10,000 meter race in a time of 33:53.16, besting the previous school record of 36:11.85 (Emily Odle, 4/14/16). The Westfield, Ind., native also hit the NCAA's automatic qualifying standard and now ranks fourth in DII heading into the upcoming national meet.
Melissa Spencer also hit a PR at St. Francis, posting a provisional time of 10:55.07 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Meanwhile, the UIndy throwers had a productive trip to the Hillsdale College Last Chance Meet.
Katrinia Hopkins took second in the discus throw with a PR of 49.00 meters, improving to 19th in the DII rankings. Redshirt-freshman
Zoe Pentecost also hit a personal record, busting out a 56.32-meter mark in the hammer throw, also good for 19th in Division II.
Also at Hillsdale,
Ailliyah Reese set a PR in the 100-meter hurdles (14.67) while
Alex Hasty cleared a season-high 4.29 meters in the pole vault.
