INDIANAPOLIS – Both the University of Indianapolis men's and women's soccer teams earned an esteemed honor on Thursday as the Collegiate Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2020-21 Academic All-District selections. Dimitrios Karousos and Dana Youssef were both named to the NCAA Division II District 4 First Team.
Karousos boasts a 3.80 GPA in the classroom. The Graduate Student in majoring in Physics with a double minor in Math and Computer Sciences. Karousos started all 17 games in net for the Hounds this season, guiding them to a 13-0-4 finish for the first undefeated season in program history. The Greece native posted 10 shutouts on the year, leading all of NCAA Division II, while recording a 0.857 save percentage, a mark good for eighth in the nation.
Youssef carries a 4.00 GPA while majoring in Molecular Biology with a double minor in Psychology and Chemistry. The reigning GLVC Defensive Player of the Year led UIndy to a 11-4-1 record and their first GLVC semifinal appearance under Head Coach Holly Cox. Youssef anchored a defense that allowed just nine goals in 16 matches this year. A native of Germany, Youssef netted a career-high two goals this season, both of which were game winners.
This marks the men's first honor since Josh Mahon in 2018 and the women's first Alyssa Baker in 2019. They were both First Team selections.
To be eligible for the nomination, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in good academic standing with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, and must be a starter or important reserve. Both Karousos and Youssef advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America honorees for men's and women's soccer will be announced on July 6th.
