INDIANAPOLIS – The postseason awards continue to roll in for the University of Indianapolis women's lacrosse team. The Hounds had six student-athletes receive IWLCA All-America honors this season, the most in a single season in program history. Abigail Lagos, Riley McClure and Peyton Romig earned First-Team honors while Grace Gunneson was named to the Second Team. Kara Antonucci and Cassidy King round out the selections with Third Team honors.
UIndy led the nation with six All-American selections followed by GLVC foe Lindenwood University with four. A total of 48 student athletes were honored from 21 institutions.
Abigail Lagos adds to an impressive awards haul this season, garnering US Lacrosse Magazine All-America First Team, IWLCA All-Region First Team, GLVC First Team and GLVC Attacker of the Year already. The Windham, NH native finished second in the nation in goals this season, finding the back of the net 62 times. She also finished 10th in total points, racking up 79 points on the year.
Riley McClure anchored one of the top defenses in the nation, holding opponents to 5.3 goals per game. The senior caused 18 turnovers while grabbing 24 groundballs and 62 draw controls. She adds to her previous awards of US Lacrosse Magazine All-America First Team, IWLCA All-Region First Team, GLVC First Team and GLVC Defender of the Year.
Peyton Romig commanded the center circle all year long, totaling 200 draw controls to lead all of Division II. The midfielder dished out 25 assists to sit 29th in the nation. Romig adds to her GLVC First Team, GLVC Midfielder of the Year, US Lacrosse Magazine All-America First Team and IWLCA All-Region First Team selections.
Grace Gunneson picked up Second Team honors after recording 47 goals on the year, a mark good for 29th in the nation. The senior totaled 61 points to finish 31st in the nation. Gunneson netted a career-high six goals in the season opener against Concordia St. Paul. The Rockford, MI native adds to her GLVC First Team, IWLCA All-Region First Team and USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Second Team selections.
Kara Antonucci played an integral role in the Hounds defense this season. The junior posted career-highs in a pair of statistical categories with 15 groundballs and 15 caused turnovers. Antonucci previously earned GLVC First Team and IWLCA All-Region First Team honors this season. Antonucci and McClure both posted a perfect 1.000 shooting percentage, scoring on their only shot of the season.
Cassidy King cap offs the selections for UIndy with Third Team honors. The Canandaigua, NY native was untouchable in net, posting the nations best goals against average and ranking 9th with a 0.519 save percentage. The junior adds to her IWLCA All-Region Second Team, GLVC First Team and GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
