Sophia Leva Joins Women’s Lacrosse Coaching Staff

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis women's lacrosse head coach James Delaney welcomed a new addition to his coaching staff this week.  Former Division I goalie Sophia Leva joins Delaney's staff as a graduate assistant.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome someone with the pedigree and playing career of Sophia to the UIndy lacrosse family," noted Delaney.  "Sophia will be able to make an immediate impact on our program and help take the Hounds to the next level with her wide range of skills and experiences."

Following her four-year career at Marquette University, Leva is the all-time leader in save percentage (.461), ranks third in career saves (245) and sits second for wins in a single season (7). Leva earned Second Team All-BIG EAST and team MVP honors in 2021 after a career-best seven wins in net along with 134 saves.  The co-captain ranked No. 1 in the BIG EAST in saves (134), saves per game (8.25) and save percentage (.482) among goalies who played at least 10 games.  Leva recorded a season-high 15 saves against then Top-20 ranked Louisville and again in a road win at Georgetown.

Leva obtained a bachelors degree in exercise physiology from Marquette in 2021.  She was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic team three times during her career as well as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad her senior season.

A native of Macedon, N.Y., Leva was a US Lacrosse All-American, two-time All-Greater Rochester First-Team selection, two-time Finger Lakes Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-League selection.  She led Palmyra-Macedon High School to two leagues championships as well as regional and sectional titles.

Leva will pursue a Masters in Sport Management at University of Indianapolis.
