LEBANON, Ill. – The 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Football Coaches Poll was released Friday, with the UIndy football team tabbed as the favorite. The announcement was made in conjunction with the annual
GLVC Football Kickoff event, held on the campus of McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill.
Â
The poll featured the league's eight football-playing schools, with UIndy receiving 47 points and five of the maximum seven first-place votes (coaches are not permitted to vote for their own team). The Greyhounds return 18 starters – nine offensive, nine defensive – from last year's conference championship roster. UIndy swept through the abbreviated
2020-21 season, capped by a
46-29 win against Truman in the first-ever GLVC Championship Game to capture its seventh conference crown since the GLVC first began sponsoring football in 2012.
Meanwhile, Lindenwood (44 pts) garnered the three remaining first-place nods to claim the No. 2 spot, followed by Truman (37) in third and Missouri S&T (32) in fourth.
Â
The
2021 UIndy football schedule gets underway Sep. 4 when the Hounds travel to the Windy City to take on NAIA-power Saint Xavier.
