INDIANAPOLIS– After a six-week break for the holiday, UIndy track & field shook off the rust and melted the ice by hosting the UIndy Classic in the ARC Saturday. The Greyhounds were just one of four GLVC teams to compete this weekend with Maryville, Truman and Lewis also competing. Even with the extended break from competing, several Hounds hit NCAA provisional marks and personal records.
The field side jump-started the action on the chilly Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Cole Hurt ended up as UIndy's top finisher in the long jump with a round-six jump of 6.32 meters, just .02 meters from the top spot. It was another freshman on the women's side as
Ellie Lengerich hit a PR with a jump of 5.48 to capture the event win. Similarly,
Makala Pfefferkorn who is also in her first year in the program, came in second with a jump of 5.07 meters. Pfefferkorn also finished first in triple jump with a 10.45-meter mark. Staying with the theme of jumping, high jump featured PRs out of
Tyler Nolan and
Ryann Griesemer.
Women's pole vault put on a show as always with dozens of spectators there to watch the trio of
Brittney Clark,
Megan Young and
Lauren Joseph crush the provo mark, all with a vault of 3.75 meters. All three took cracks at 3.90 but were unable to clear the mark. Men's pole vault had
Treyton Arnold clearing 4.33 meters for the win.
Weight throw featured Taylor Sadowski placing second, beat out only by his coach in
Matt Royer, who performed unattached.
Zoe Pentecost hit another 19-meter throw, her third straight meet hitting that milestone for the crown on the women's side.
Just after weight is where it got interesting.
Keeton Adams competed in shot put for the first time since the 2021 GLVC Outdoor Championships, and he came back with a bang hitting the provo mark on his first throw of 16.51 meters.
Evan Gaylor hit a new personal best of 15.10 meters, his first time over the 15-meter mark in his college career. Women's shot put was highlighted by
Claire Tabbit's 11.80-meter PR toss.
The running side featured a highlight show in the mile, with
Ben Nagel hitting his stride for the provo mark with a time of 4:13:53, just milliseconds shy of his all-time PR. Alongside his mark, AJ Gocker and
Andrew Bixler both hit mile PRs. The women's side of the mile was won by
Eline Pinter, with
Hanna Stamm and Mari Hudson adding PRs.
The Greyhounds swept the 400, with
Emily Sonderman and
Josiah Adams both coming in first. In the hurdles, Samuel Dewitt leaped his way to second place. And to conclude the UIndy classic, the team of Bernice Cleyet-Merle, Lengerich, Pinter and Sonderman combined for a time of 4:01.11 in the 4x400 relay.
UP NEXT
The Hounds continue their streak of home meets with the Tom Hathaway Classic set to kick off on January 28 and conclude the next day all in the UIndy ARC.
