TERRE HAUTE, Ind – With just one week until the GLVC Outdoor Championships, UIndy track and field built some momentum and smashed some PRs this weekend. Originally set to travel to the Hillsdale hosted Gina Relays, the squad had to make a detour, landing at the Sycamore Open, hosted by Indiana State University. Behind top performances in shot put and hammer throw, alongside dominance within pole vault, the women's squad finished second overall in a field of ten schools. The men's side, fighting short handed with many of their top guys on rest for GLVC's, came out in fifth.
The throwing crew had yet another bountiful weekend. Emily Bonser, the transfer from Miami of Ohio, continues to light up the books. In shot put she went for a 12.48 mark, landing her in first place with a PR. She did it once again in hammer with a 47.31 launch, adding yet another first place to her day.
Bonser was not the only thrower to have themselves a day, Tyler Gilbert fanned the flames of his hot streak, besting his NCAA provisional mark from last week and adding to his PR in discus with a 50.99 throw. His day left him in third place. In discus as well, a trio of Hounds on the women's side performed well with Audra Hogan, Michaela Adams and MaKenna Maschino coming in third, fourth, and fifth. Hogan picked up a PR in hammer throw as well.
Pole vault saw a sweep of first place by the Hounds, with Brittney Clark and Cade Priddy taking the cake. Clark improved upon her provo with a 3.96-meter vault and brings her much closer to that 4.0 outdoor mark and just one centimeter from the outdoor pole vault record held by teammate Lauren Joseph. Clark went onto attempt the school record setting the bar at 4.0 meters even but it was not in the cards on the evening. Priddy hit a massive PR to land him in first, vaulting 4.75 meters, just .10 of a meter away from the outdoor provo mark. Treyton Arnold on the men's side took second, and reigning GLVC Field Athlete of the Week Sabrina Robison finished fourth.
Short distance and sprinting was the theme for the Hounds track side. In the 100 meter and the 200 meter, Hallie Montgomery had a quality day, finishing first in the 200 and third in the 100. Alexander Brown-Baez crossed the line in the 400 meter, in fifth.
The 1500 featured a pair of PRs, with Nico Barrett's time of 4:17.45 and Brandon Albins time of 4:34.57, earning them both PRs.
Hurdles was a fun time with Sam DeWitt taking second with a time of 14.55 weighed for wind, in the 110. Ailliyah Reese not to be shown up did the same for the 100-meter hurdles. Deandre Stroud took third with a PR in the 400 and Olivia Brimmage took first, running the 400 hurdles alone.
The Sycamore also saw a late season event debut for Andrew Bixler. "Bix" took his talents to the 3K steeplechase, placing eight with a time of 10:16.95.
