GREYHOUNDS at NCAAs
UIndy earned its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth this spring, with its victories last weekend against Lindenwood and Grand Valley State good for the first NCAA postseason wins in program history. The Hounds are making a national semifinal appearance in just their seventh year as a program. The Greyhounds have exactly two games of history combined versus the other three semifinalists, having faced Adelphi earlier this season (more details below) and Queens in 2021 (a UIndy 15-5 road win).
HOUNDS vs. PANTHERS
Adelphi can claim the only win against UIndy so far this season. The Greyhounds traveled to Garden City, N.Y., in mid-March and endured a 7-5 road loss in the teams' first-ever meeting. The Hounds' goal total that day marked a season low while matching their lowest since scoring five times at LeMoyne on March 2, 2019.
Saturday's second semifinal will feature two of the nation's top defenses. UIndy leads Division II in scoring defense (5.3 goals against per game) while the Panthers rank third (6.2 gpg). However, the Greyhounds also sport a top-tier offense at 17.1 gpg (6th in DII), while Adelphi scores 13.9 goals per, good for 40th in DII.
Adelphi leads all Division II programs with nine national championships, with its last coming in 2019.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
In addition to the aforementioned statistical rankings, the Greyhounds have put up a number of other lofty numbers. They lead all of Division II in fewest turnovers per game (10.9), while ranking second in draw controls per game (18.6), second in scoring margin (11.8), third in shots on goal per (28.5) and third in save percentage (.519).
ALL-AMERICANS
The USA Lacrosse Magazine announced their All-Americans last week with four Greyhounds making the list. Â Captains
Abigail Lagos and
Peyton Romig repeated as First Team selections while defensive powerhouse
Kara Antonucci earned Second Team honors. Â Senior goalkeeper
Cassidy King received an Honorable Mention nod.
ALL-CONFERENCE DOMINATION
The Greyhounds were very well represented on the All-GLVC teams this season. Â UIndy did a clean sweep of the five major Player of the Year awards in
Abigail Lagos (attacker),
Peyton Romig (midfielder),
Kara Antonucci (defensive),
Cassidy King (goalkeeper) and
Bella Schorr (freshman). Â Seven Hounds earned First Team honors in
Kara Antonucci,
Cassidy King,
Sarah Klein,
Abigail Lagos,
Mekayla Montgomery,
Bella Schorr and
Peyton Romig. Â
Quinn Malcolm and
Kylee Manser were named to the Second Team while
Christina Sato,
Audrey Moran and
Amy Vegh picked up Honorable Mention honors.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Head Coach
James Delaney has employed an uncommon strategy in goal this season, starting redshirt-sophomore
Audrey Moran and subbing in All-America senior
Cassidy King at half. Â Moran has been credited with 17 wins in net with a 5.97 goals against average. Â King repeated as the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Goalkeeper of the Year this season after boasting a .553 save percentage.
BEST OF THE BEST
Draw control specialist
Peyton Romig has posted a career-high 236 draw controls this season, reaching 912 in her career. Â It is unofficially an NCAA career record as the NCAA does not track career draw controls. Â She also ranks third in DII this season as 11.2 draw controls per game. Â She recorded a season-high of 18 in a win over Tampa while tallying double digits in 15 games this season. Â Her career-high of 22 came against Missouri Western last season.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
One of the most dangerous scoring threats in the nation,
Abigail Lagos currently leads the Hounds in both goals (89) and assists (25). Â Both marks are career-highs for the senior as she posted her first 100+ point season of her career. Â She has scored at least one point in 63 of her 66 games for the Crimson and Grey. Â Entering the final weekend of play, she ranks third in the nation in goals (89) and eighth in goals per game (4.19).
HOMELAND SECURITY
Capped off with a Midwest regional title last weekend, the Hounds recently completed their fourth consecutive undefeated season at their home of Key Stadium. Â They've won a staggering 45 straight home games dating back to February 2018. Â The streak is the longest active home win streak in all three NCAA Divisions.
