AUSTIN, Texas – The 2021-22 Academic All-America® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams were announced Wednesday, with UIndy senior
Ben Nagel among the honorees. Voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the coveted award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Nagel earned inclusion on the Academic All-America® First Team for the second straight year. He becomes just the second multi-year recipient in UIndy men's track & field history, joining three-time honoree Austin Hogan (2017-19).
Nagel, an 800-meter specialist, racked up a ton of hardware this past academic year. After collecting All-Midwest Region accolades and a GLVC gold medal during the indoor season, Nagel did the same in outdoor before securing All-America status with a third-place finish at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships. He also collected the NCAA Elite 90 Award at outdoor nationals, becoming UIndy's first-ever two-time Elite 90 winner*.
* Nagel also won the 2021 NCAA Elite 90 Award at the 2021 NCAA DII Indoor Championships.
