Rivas Selected as ABCA/Rawlings NCAA DII Second Team All-American

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Another prestigious award has been given to Xavier Rivas of the University of Indianapolis baseball team. This time, he has been named as an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Second Team All-American, officials have announced. As of today, this is the ninth award he has garnered so far this season. Recently, he was the ABCA/Rawlings Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year.

Rivas tallied one of the best statistical seasons for a pitcher in school history. Notably, he recorded 128 strikeouts in 80-1/3 innings pitched with an earned run average of just 2.24. His strikeout total finished him second all-time on the UIndy baseball single season strikeout leaderboard, trailing only behind Greyhound legend Bill Bright.

The left-handed pitcher finishing with a 14.34 strikeouts per nine innings average which ranked towards the top in the NCAA Division II. Most notably, Rivas added double-digit Ks in 10 of his 12 appearances this year which at one point included an eight game streak of sitting down 10 or more batters in a single game. His final WHIP was 0.98, which sits as the lowest by a Greyhound hurler that has tossed 10 or more innings in a season since 2016 (does not include shortened 2020 season).
