INDIANAPOLIS – Ellie Lengerich in the women's pentathlon and
Treyton Arnold in the men's pole vault both took down school records this weekend on campus as the University of Indianapolis men's and women's indoor track & field teams hosted the Tom Hathaway Distance Carnival in the ARC on Friday and Saturday.
Â
FRIDAY
Day one was a strong showing for the No. 23 women's squad who saw Lengerich take down the school record in the pentathlon while earning a provisional mark in the process. She won the event with a dominating score of 3,642 which nearly beat the next competitor in line by 1,000 points. Most notably, she only finished second in the 60-meter hurdles and proceeded to win the rest of the events associated with the pentathlon (high jump, shot put, long jump, 800m). Her final score beats the previous school-best mark of 3,297 which was set by Lengerich herself back on Jan. 28, 2022.
Â
Lengerich wasn't the only Hound to perform at a high level on Friday for the women's squad, as both
Brittney Clark and
Zoe Pentecost each corralled top finishes in their respective events. On her final attempt in the pole vault, Clark cleared 4.00 meters which would eventually earn her the top mark and a provo. In the weight throw, Pentecost left no doubt she was the best competitor in the event and tossed a winning mark of 19.24 meters, which was 4.01 meters better than second place. This also collected her a provo.
Â
Other notable results from the opening day for the women saw
Sabrina Robison earn a provo in the pole vault and finish second behind Clark (3.85 meters),
Ailliyah Reese earned the runner-up spot in the 60m hurdles, and the quartet of
Claire Tabit,
MaKenna Maschino,
Emily Bonser, and
Anne Thoman claimed third through sixth, respectively, in the weight throw.
Â
Moving over to the men's side, it was Arnold who broke the school record, earned a provo, notched a new indoor personal record mark, and collected the winning leap in the pole vault as he lifted himself past the bar on his second attempt at 4.85 meters. This breaks the old school-best of 4.82 meters that was set clear back in 2003 by Stephen Baase.
Â
Along with their teammate Arnold, the duo of
Ndubisi Eze and
Josiah Adams each won a pair of events for the Hounds. Eze took to the track in the 60m hurdles and notched the top finishing time of 8.32. Adams raced his way to a winning finish in the 400m at 50.88.
Â
Other notable finishes for the men on day one saw
Cade Priddy claim second in the pole vault behind Arnold at 4.60 meters, a new indoor PR for him. In the weight throw, head throwing coach
Matt Royer went unattached into the event and showed he still had it by tossing an easy top mark of 21.12 meters. While this might not matter in terms of actual season results and rankings, what did matter was that the Hounds dominated the field with the quartet of
Cameron Smith,
Keeton Adams,
Dylan Mayhew, and
Jacob Brouse going second, third, fourth, and sixth, respectively, in the event.
SATURDAY
It was another action packed day of competition in the ARC as both programs added some more top finishing marks and quality finishes to cap off their weekend on campus.
Â
Beginning on the women's side, Bonser claimed victory in the shot put as she launched a winning throw of 12.63 meters to set her new indoor PR. Similar to the weight throw on Friday, the Greyhounds throwing crew dominated the event with Pentecost,
Faith Hensel, Tabit, Thoman, and Maschino taking the second, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh spots, respectively.
Â
While Bonser was the lone Greyhound to claim an individual victory for the women on day two, UIndy still managed to rattled off a handful of notable finishes.
Lex Brookshire brought home second in the 3000m while
Hannah Wells finished fourth in the race. Both
Sabrina Robison in the triple jump and the women's DMR team ended in third place in their respective events while
Cara Hutson claimed fourth in the high jump and
Hallie Montgomery fifth in the 200m.
Â
Over on the men's side, the quartet of
Jaycee Wilburn,
Dylan Mayhew,
Andrew Bixler, and Eze each corralled top finishes for the Hounds at the ARC. In the 800m, Wilburn raced his way around the track and won with a time of 1:56.78, a new indoor PR for him. In the shot put, Mayhew launched his new PR throw of 16.06 meters to beat the rest of the field. Bixler won the 3000m after clocking in at 8:56.22. Finally in the high jump, Eze leapt over the bar at 2.01 meters for the win.
Â
Similar to the women, the men also notched a handful of notable performances on day two. The trio of Smith (shot put),
Amarion Conyers (high jump), and
Nico Barrett (3000m) each managed to finish in third in their respective events while
Tyler Nolan (heptathlon) and
Nyc Sigmon (3000m) both cracked the top-five with fourth-place finishes in their events. Finally, the 4x400m relay team notched fifth.
