INDIANAPOLIS—The UIndy track & field program opens its indoor season this weekend by hosting the inaugural
Scott Fangman Invitational. Set for Saturday, Dec. 2 in the UIndy Athletics and Recreation Center (ARC), the meet is named after the recently-retired and longtime Greyhound head coach.
Â
The festivities will start in the ARC's Wells-Fargo Room at 12:30 p.m. when the man himself will be honored for his service and dedication to UIndy track & field and cross country. Fangman and company will move to the dome at 1 p.m. for a group picture at the start/finish line. Competition will start with field events at 1:30 p.m. and track events at 2 o'clock.
Â
Following Fangman's retirement, UIndy alumnus
Brad Robinson, the Greyhounds' current Cross Country Head Coach, stepped into the lead role as Interim Director of Track and Cross Country. Robinson returns a number of standouts from last season. Four national qualifiers are back, including
Ellie Lengerich (pentathlon),
Zoe Pentecost (weight throw),
Sabrina Robison (pole vault) and
Treyton Arnold (pole vault). Both Pentecost and Robison earned
All-America status, while Lengerich is the reigning
GLVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and Arnold is the defending
GLVC men's pole champ.
