LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—UIndy football standout
Landry Mavungu was announced recently as one of just 32 finalists for the prestigious Cliff Harris Award. The annual award is "dedicated to celebrating exceptional defensive players in small college football. Named after NFL Hall of Famer Cliff Harris, the award acknowledges players who exhibit excellence on and off the field."
Â
Mavungu made 39 starts in the Crimson and Grey over five seasons. The shutdown corner capped his college career by being named the 2023 GLVC Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first-ever cornerback named the league's top defender.
Â
A native of Normal, Ill., Mavungu amassed two interceptions and six pass break-ups on the season while leading the team's non-linebackers with 51 tackles. He also has an 82-yard touchdown return to his credit (blocked field goal) as well as a GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week award.
Â
Mavungu was voted All-Super Region 3 Second Team by the College Sports Communicators and All-GLVC First Team by the league's coaches. He helped lead UIndy to a nine-win season, a GLVC championship and an NCAA DII playoff berth.
