Men's Lacrosse Alum Evan Soucy Drafted by NLL's Calgary Roughnecks

OAKVILLE, Ontario - UIndy men's lacrosse alum Evan Soucy was selected in the 2023 National League Lacrosse (NLL) Entry Draft on Saturday, taken by the Calgary Roughnecks with the 37th overall pick at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.

"It's great to see Evan's hard work on the field and in the box pay off," said head coach Greg Stocks. "The Roughnecks are getting a tough and gritty defender who will excel in the pro's. I am excited to see him play in the NLL."

Soucy concluded his impressive career in the Circle City this past spring, earning USILA All-American distinction, as well as CSC Academic All-District and All-GLVC First Team honors. Nanaimo, British Columbia, native places fourth in the program record book with 57 caused turnovers and eighth with 102 ground balls. Overall, Soucy competed in 46 games as a Greyhound, including 15 contests in 2023 for a team that advanced to its fourth consecutive NCAA tournament.

"I'm super excited to have been selected by Calgary," said Soucy. "It's always been a goal of mine to play lacrosse at the professional level and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to make that dream come true. Growing up my lacrosse idol was Scott Ranger who played for the Roughnecks organization and is from my hometown, so it's super cool to see things come full circle."

The Roughnecks are three-time NLL champions, winning the league crown in 2004, 2009, and 2019.

The complete NLL schedule will be release at a later date. However, the 2024 UIndy men's lacrosse team opens its season on Friday, Feb. 2, at Alabama Huntsville for a South Region showdown.
