DES PLAINES, Ill. – The UIndy women's bowling team finished the Windy CIty Halloween Classic with a 6-7 record, knocking down No. 13 Wisconsin Whitewater on their way to a 12th place finish.
The Greyhounds were paced by Emily Heldman individually, finishing 13th in the field of 106 with a 187 average. Cheyenne Beechboard and Alyssa Cash also placed in the top third of the field, finishing 28th and 33rd, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The tournament opened with Baker match play, where the Hounds finished 1-4 through five matches Friday. The highest Baker total came in the victory over Western Illinois, where UIndy collected 877 pins.
Saturday's competition consisted of five traditional games, where the Hounds tallied a 4-1 mark and 4,259 total pins. The best performance came in the win over Whitewater, as UIndy hung up 921 pins to the Warhawk's 877. Leading the way in the win was a 209 from Heldman, and a 196 from Madisyn Shambry.
The Hounds also collected wins against Elmhurst, Aurora, and Alabama A&M on Saturday. Heldman's 187average was the highest average in Saturday's round, while Beechboard and Cash finished with averages over 170.
On Sunday, UIndy entered the Baker bracket play slotted against Aurora, where the Hounds swept 4-0. In the next round, the Hounds fell to Marian 4-2, collecting 1,044 pins. In the following match, UIndy was narrowly edged by Aurora 4-3, totalling 1,131 pins.
