After the UIndy men's soccer team
two-goal comeback against No. 8 McKendree, the Greyhounds will look to pull off another upset in its second round match up with the No. 1 overall seed in Super Region 3, and the No. 4 team in the country, Fort Hays State.
The Greyhounds and the Tigers have only met twice before, with the Greyhounds taking both of the NCAA Tournament meetings, once in
2019, and once in
2021. Both times UIndy have seen Fort Hays State in the NCAA Tournament, the Greyhounds have gone on to make the Final Four in both years.
Along with the two sides only having met twice before, neither head coach has faced off against one another. UIndy head coach
Gabe Hall earned his second career NCAA Tournament win on Friday afternoon, while the Tigers' skipper Alex Nichols only has one NCAA Tournament win to his name. Nichols had a distinguished career as an NAIA manager, winning two NAIA national championships with Central Methodist.
Both teams rank Top-25 nationally in goals scored this season, with the Greyhounds led by All-GLVC members,
Alvaro Sanchez and
Gio Terlizzi who both scored six goals apiece. The Tigers have the nation's second leading goal scorer, Elias Ovelar Semeniuk, who along with racking up 14 goals, claimed GAC/MIAA Offensive Player of the Year honors.
The Greyhounds will look to claim its first win over a top five team in the nation since 2019, when the Greyhounds stunned Lake Erie in the
2019 NCAA Tournament.
