INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's and women's track and field teams had seven top three finishes to conclude day one of the GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Both teams currently sit in second place in the team scores; the men have 25 points, and the women earn 50 points. Lewis currently sits in first place going into day two.
Jorjia Ferguson was the first Hound to reach the podium. Ferguson competed in the women's pentathlon and gathered 3227 points. The freshman won the 800m, which helped her earn second place.
The Greyhounds' throwing squad was successful during the weight throw competition.
Cameron Smith started the group off strong in the men's event. Smith placed third with a mark of 17.87m. The women's team had six Greyhounds finish inside the top eight.
Zoe Pentecost claimed her third consecutive title in the weight throw. Pentecost had a season best throw of 19.53m to win.
Audra Hogan took second with 18.67m. With this mark, Hogan has a chance to make it to Nationals.
Alex Meyer was the sole jumper to reach the podium on day one. Meyer placed second after reaching 7.36m.
Three Greyhounds made it to the 60m hurdles finals tomorrow.
Caressa Addison (9.32) and Ferguson (9.19) will compete for the women's title and
Jack Scoggins (8.66) will race in the men's final.
The UIndy DMR teams both earned a spot on the podium to end day one. The women's team placed third with a time of 12:11.32. The men were in a battle with Lewis for first. The Flyers inched past the Greyhounds in the final lap. The Hounds took second after clocking 10:01.76.
The men's heptathlon will start tomorrow's events at 9 a.m. The field events will begin at 11 a.m. and the running events will follow at 1:30 p.m.
