Track & Field Compete in Last Meets Before Conference

WILLMINGTON, Ohio - The UIndy men's and women's track and field teams competed in two meets in the final weekend before the conference meet. The Greyhounds looked to get marks that would send them to the GLVC Championships next weekend.
 
WILLMINGTON COLLEGE INVITE
A majority of the team competed at the Wilmington College Invite in Wilmington, Ohio. The Hounds competed against NCAA D3 teams in a scored meet. The women's squad placed fifth with 71 points, and the men earned 45 points to place sixth. Host Wilmington College won the team competition with 147 and 145 points, respectively.
 
On the track, Cloey Simon won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.82. Teammate Caressa Addison followed behind in second place at 1:13.73. Marina Agapios took second in the 800m (2:32.48) and Ashley Sanderson placed second in the 200m (26.60).
 
On the men's side, Riley Buroff made his debut for the track and field team. Buroff, a member of the UIndy football team, placed second in the 400m (49.35). Lateef Mustafaa placed third in the same event, completing a lap in 50.82.
 
Conyer Wilson had a busy day on the track. Wilson placed second in the 1500m (4.02.86) and fourth in the 800m (1:59.55), both are new career bests.
 
In the field, Lillian Callahan cleared 3.34m, a career high, to win the women's pole vault. In the shot put, Annie Thoman (10.69m) placed third in the women's competition and Lance Fields (13.99m) took fourth for the men.
 
ASHLAND ALUMNI OPEN
A small group of UIndy throwers traveled to Ashland, Ohio, to compete in the 15th Ashland Alumni Open.
 
Zoe Pentecost and Dylan Mayhew competed in the elite section of the hammer throw. Pentecost threw for 60.77m, a season-best, to win the nine-person competition. Mayhew placed eighth in his competition with a mark of 54.60m. In the open hammer throw, MaKenna Maschino placed first with 52.18m, and Cameron Smith took second (54.67m) on the men's side. Smith also placed seventh in the elite shot put with 14.84m.
 
In the elite women's shot put competition, Faith Hensel and Loria Snowden finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Hensel reached 13.59m, while Snowden reached 12.21m.
 
Macie Swinehart took second in the open discus with a season high of 42.83m. Amanda Noel placed fourth in the javelin with a mark of 34.27m.
 
UP NEXT
The Hounds will compete in the GLVC Championships next weekend. Action is slated to start on Thursday, May 1, and last through Saturday on the campus of Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.
