COLUMBUS, Ohio – The postseason's second set of softball all-region awards was released Tuesday, with three Greyhounds appearing on the D2CCA All-Midwest Region List. As selected by the region's College Sports Communicatots (CSC), sophomore utility player
Cara Cooper and freshman outfield
Brooklyn Willis garnered first team accolades, while freshman utility/pitcher
Cheyenne Eads appears on the second team list. The trio also earned
all-region recognition for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association last week.
A major contributor at both shortstop and in the outfield this season, Cooper is now a consensus All-Midwest Region first teamer at the utility spot. At the regionals last week, the Circleville, Ohio native eclipsed the school record for doubles in a season ans later had the walk-off hit in the regional final.
Willis is wrapping up a stellar rookie campaign at the plate. She paces the region in RBIs (55) while leading the team in all three slash line numbers (.396/.461/.632). She enters the super regional tied for the program's single-season hit record.
Finally, Eads has been a workhorse for the Hounds in the circle, tossing seven complete games in the Hounds' eight postseason contests to date. Also voted the
GLVC Freshman of the Year, she tops the Midwest in pitching victories (25) and innings pitched.
Meanwhile, the Greyhounds are on the eve of their third consecutive MIdwest Super Regional appearances. They travel to Mid Michigan this week to face top-seeded Saginaw Valley for the right to go to the World Series.
a squad fresh off winning the GLVC title. The Greyhounds are currently competing at the NCAA DII Midwest Regional.
