CLEVELAND – The University of Indianapolis capped an outstanding 2024-25 sports calendar with a top-five finish in the Division II LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, placing fourth among nearly 300 NCAA Division II institutions. Perennially one of the top athletic programs in DII, UIndy has now finished fifth or higher in the Directors' Cup in five consecutive years* and is one of only three DII institutions that can claim 17 straight top-20 showings*.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish at the NCAA Championships in up to 15 sports, four of which must be men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org.
UIndy officially finished the year with 789.75 total points, 16.5 points behind third-place West Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Grand Valley State topped the standings with 1080.50, followed by runner-up Wingate with 837.25.
The Greyhounds' final tally was boosted by an incredible spring season that yielded a DII-leading 457.75 points. UIndy racked up four top-10 showings this spring, including a national semifinal showing by
women's lacrosse, a national quarterfinal appearance by
men's tennis, and Super Regional berths from both
softball and
baseball.
Other major contributions came from men's outdoor
track & field, which garnered event national championships from both
Josue Le Cadre and
Alex Meyer. Both
swimming & diving teams secured top-five finishes at the NCAA DII Championships.
Wrestling placed 11th at its national meet, with a big assist coming from back-to-back national champ
Derek Blubaugh. Meanwhile,
women's golf qualified for Nationals, and
football and
women's tennis both earned NCAA postseason berths.
* no final standings were compiled in 2019-20 and 2020-21 due to the pandemic.
