NEW ORLEANS— After claiming a new Division II record in the men's 800m Indianapolis junior Josue Le Cadre has earned his third United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week honor this season.
From the USTFCCCA
National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to 12 collegiate track & field, when applicable (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions, the NAIA and the NJCAA).
The award seeks to highlight not only the very best times, marks and scores on a week-to-week basis, but also performances that were significant on the national landscape and/or the latest in a series of strong outings. Quality of competition, suspenseful finishes and other factors will also play a role in the decision.
Junior | Mid-Distance
Nantes, France
On a weekend full of records, Josue Le Cadre would not be left out.
The mid-distance specialist set an NCAA DII record in the 800 meters, blazing his way to a 1:45.09 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Le Cadre leaned his way over the line and just past the previous mark of 1:45.24, set by Savieri Ngidhi of Abilene Christian. The former Wildcats' mark stood strong for 20 years before Saturday!
All signs pointed towards Le Cadre putting together this type of effort. The Indianapolis junior flew around the track to a 1:46.97 indoors, which slotted him second all-time in NCAA DII history.
This marks the first time in program history that an athlete from Indianapolis has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season.
