ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
In just their second full season as a NCAA Division II squad, the Cardinals sport a 1-4 record in conference play, with their lone GLVC win coming in a 29-26 final versus Kentucky Wesleyan Sept. 15.
After dropping a 65-49 shootout versus Saint Joseph's last week, Jewell ranks last in the league in scoring defense (41.9 ppg) and total defense (493.6 ypg). Those numbers improve slightly in GLVC games, however, as the Cardinals endured a pair of lopsided non-conference losses to Colorado Mines and now-12th-ranked Missouri Western State early in the season.
One of the bright points from last week's home loss was freshman Thomas Cook. The Dallas, Texas, native racked up 452 all-purpose yards, including 225 yards rushing on 22 carries. He returned a punt 86 yards for a score and was named GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week.
William Jewell is the league's least penalized team, ranking first in both fewest penalties (4.8 per) and fewest penalty yards (34.2 ypg).
HOUNDS vs. CARDINALS
As is the case with eight of UIndy's opponents this year, Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between the Hounds and William Jewell. Against common opponents this season, the Greyhounds are 5-0 while the Cardinals are 1-4.
LAST TIME OUT
The two bookends of the Great Lakes Valley Conference football standings met last Saturday afternoon, as the league-leading Greyhounds traveled to last-place Kentucky Wesleyan and handed the Panthers a
45-14 defeat. UIndy out-gained its host, 586-163, in total offense, as four different Hounds reached the end zone.
Junior quarterback
Chris Mills threw four touchdown passes for the third consecutive week. His final TD pass of the day was the 56th of his career, good for a new UIndy record.
SPREAD THE WEALTH
Last week's win marked the fifth straight game that at least four different Greyhounds scored a touchdown. Redshirt-freshman
Reece Horn scored a TD in the fourth quarter at KWC, good for his first-ever collegiate score.
STREAKIN'
UIndy heads into this weekend riding a six-game winning streak, its most since running off eight straight spanning the 1998 and '99 seasons. The Hounds had not won six straight in the same season since going 6-0 to begin the 1997 campaign.
The program record for longest win streak is 12, set in 1953-54. If you include a pair of ties, the Greyhounds went unbeaten in 13 straight games spanning the 1984 and '85 seasons.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
Of the 44 teams that comprise the NCAA Division II Super Region #4, the Greyhounds debuted at No. 4 in the year's initial regional poll.
The Hounds are the only GLVC team in the top 10. Undefeated-teams Colorado State-Pueblo and Ashland occupy the top two spots, while Chadron State sits one slot ahead of UIndy in third.

Just six teams from each region will advance to the 24-team NCAA D-II Championships. The annual tournament will begin on campus sites Nov. 17. The opening round will feature the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting games versus the sixth- and fifth-seeded squads, respectively, while the top two teams will receive byes.
The Greyhounds are looking for their first postseason appearance since joining Division II back in 1979. They last made the NCAA playoffs as a D-III squad in 1975.
POLL POSITION
In addition to their strong showing the regional poll, the Greyhounds are receiving votes for the fourth straight week and fifth time this season in the national poll. Since reappearing in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Poll Oct. 1, the Hounds have increased their number of points each week and now sit just five spots outside the top 25.
UIndy garnered votes in the AFCA's preseason poll, but fell out for four weeks after a season-opening loss at Ashland, a team that is currently 8-0 and ranked sixth in the nation and second in the region.

ASCENDING THE THRONE
With a one-game lead and just two conference games to play, a win Saturday would secure the Greyhounds a share of the first-ever GLVC football championship. A league title would be the first for the Hounds since 1981 when UIndy - then called Indiana Central - captured its second Heartland Collegiate Conference crown. The Greyhounds also won the 1978 HCC title after winning the Hoosier College Conference in 1947, 1953-55 and '60.
The GLVC's one-loss teams, Missouri S&T and Urbana, square off Saturday in the league's marquee match-up. A win for Urbana would have added significance, as the Blue Knights host UIndy in the regular-season finale Nov. 10.
THE NEW TRIPLETS
Reminiscent of past “triplets” like Aikman, Smith and Irvin or Manning, James and Harrison, the Greyhound trio of
Chris Mills,
Klay Fiechter and
Mar'quone Edmonds are compiling numbers never seen by Greyhound football fans. All three have tied or surpassed UIndy touchdowns records this season; Mills and Edmonds became the school's all-time leaders in career TD passes and TD receptions, respectively, while Fiechter has already matched program records for most rushing TDs and total TDs in a season. Below are a few more records within striking distance for the talented threesome.

CHAIN REACTION
UIndy leads the GLVC in a number of statistical categories, including 3rd-down conversion rate. Heading into week nine, the Greyhounds have moved the chains on 49.4 percent of their 3rd down attempts. Meanwhile, the William Jewell defense has allowed a 51.4 conversion rate on 3rd down, good for last in the league.
MOVE OVER, GILLY
A week after setting the school's career touchdown pass record, Mills is on the verge of leapfrogging his position coach on a couple other UIndy all-time lists. Mills needs 10 completions and 15 passing yards this week to bump former UIndy standout and current Greyhound quarterbacks coach Casey Gillin out of third place in the UIndy annals in both categories.
