SOMERS, Wis.- The UIndy cross country teams head to the Somers, Wis., Saturday to compete for the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference championships.  The event will be held at Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, located on the west end of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside campus.

The site of numerous national meets over the years, the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course hosted the 2009 NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships.  The 2010 conference championships will open with the 32nd annual men's 8,000-meter run at 10:30 a.m. Central, followed by the 27th annual women's 6,000-meter run at 11:30 a.m.

The top-placing men's and women's teams will each be named the 2010 GLVC cross country champion.  In addition, the top 15 men individual finishers and the top 15 women individual finishers will be named All-GLVC, and the medalist of each race will be named the GLVC Runner of the Year.  The top finishing freshman on the men's and women's side, respectively, will garner GLVC Freshman of the Year honors.

The University of Southern Indiana swept the championships in 2009 in Louisville.  It marked the fifth consecutive men's title for the Eagles and their league-best 17th overall.  It was the third straight women's title for USI and sixth overall.

The UIndy men placed fourth last season, while the women earned sixth place.  Current harriers Mark Martinez and Stephanie Cave garnered All-GLVC honors.

Each Greyhound team has one conference title to its credit.  The men's squad grabbed its only league championship in 2000, eight years after the women earned their only crown.  Three Greyhounds have captured the individual title, as Erhard Bell (1979) and John Parson (2003) both won the event on the men's side, while current Greyhound cross country coach Kathy Casey crossed the line first in 1988.
