KENOSHA, Wis.-  The Greyhound softball team split a doubleheader at Wisconsin-Parkside Friday, winning game one 1-0 in 10 innings before a 4-3 loss in game two.  Senior Megan Russell became the school's career pitching strikeout leader, surpassing Beth Wendlinger, who set the mark back in 2006.

UIndy (30-13, 18-6 GLVC) was locked into a fierce pitcher's duel in the opener as Russell and Kallie Walczak each struck-out 16 and did not allow an earned run.

Carmen Martinez doubled to lead-off the 10th inning and scored the game's only run a batter later when Brooke Johnson sacrificed and an error gave the Hounds a 1-0 lead.  Parkside (20-16, 11-11)  also got the leadoff batter on in the bottom of the inning and had the tying run at third, but Russell struck out Nowdomski for the fourth time to get the final out and preserve the win.

Russell set down 16 straight Rangers from the fourth through the ninth inning until the leadoff single in the tenth.  She allowed just four baserunners the entire game (three hits, one walk) with one of those being erased on a successful pick-off by her battery-mate Ashley Boxley, who gunned down the leadoff runner in the second inning.

Russell's impressive pitching line read: 10 innings, 16 Ks, three hits and one walk with no runs for her 19th career shutout.  UIndy managed just three hits in the opener as well, one apiece from Chrissy Stephens, Kelsey Rummel# and Martinez.

The Hounds jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second game with runs in each of the first, third and fourth innings.  UWP batted around in the fifth inning to plate three runs and take a 4-3 advantage.  That lead would hold up through a late rally by Indianapolis.   Jamie Keltz singled to start the seventh and eventually got to third with just one out.  She would be left stranded, however, and the Rangers salvaged a split.

Jennifer DeMotte took the loss in the circle, throwing six innings with 10 hits and four earned runs with six Ks.  Three different Hounds collected a pair of hits in game two in Keltz, DeMotte and Martinez.

The win assured a conference tournament berth for the Greyhounds with four regular season games remaining.  UIndy will continue its road swing Saturday with a doubleheader at Saint Joseph's.  First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. Eastern.

Notes:  Russell now has 595 Ks for her career, seven more than Wendlinger's mark ... both pitchers are the only two Greyhounds with more than 350 career strikeouts ... Russell has 190 Ks this season, surpassing her best season mark (2009) and is now just a dozen shy of the school's season mark, also held by Wendlinger (202 in '06) ... UIndy reached 30 wins for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
