MANKATO, Minn.- UIndy's men's track and field squad closed out competition at the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships with five All-American finishes Friday and Saturday.
Ryan Smith earned his second All-American finish of the meet in the men's shot put, with his toss of 17.14 meters good for fifth in the event.
Matt Royer also threw, finishing tenth with a best-throw of 16.64 meters.
Robert Gardner earned the fourth All-American honor of his career with a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash. Gardner just missed another All-American finish in the 400-meter race, finishing ninth.
Gardner, Jerel Flournoy, Jermel Kindred and Kyle Schwartz, the UIndy men's 4x400 meter relay team also just missed All-American status, finishing ninth in the event to close out the meet. UIndy finished eighth of 41 total schools at the meet.
In total, five All-American finishes were recorded by the Greyhounds at the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, with Smith bringhing home two. Royer (weight throw), Flournoy (long jump) and Joshua Bass (long jump) were also All-American finishers at the meet, bringing home the honors on
day one.
Next up for the Greyhounds is the kick off of the outdoor season, with the squad heading to the Polar Bear Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan March 24.
