GRAND LAKES, Colo. - After winning its last six contests, the UIndy women's lacrosse team has moved up one spot in the latest IWLCA poll to No. 8 in NCAA Division II. The Greyhounds continue to improve on the program's short history, inching up to their highest spot in the national rankings each week this season. UIndy is also ranked No. 8 in the latest Nike/US Lacrosse poll.
Yesterday afternoon, the
Hounds cruised by Davenport for the team's second GLIAC win of the season. The victory marked their sixth straight after dropping the season opener to No. 3 Lindenwood. Along the way, UIndy has defeated two nationally-ranked teams, including No. 9 Regis and No. 21 McKendree. The Greyhounds travel to Allendale, Mich. Thursday night for a matchup with No. 16 Grand Valley State.
The Hounds have five players with double-digit goals, including team-leader
Delaney Davidson, who has found the back of the cage 21 times.
Grace Gunneson added four more to her total yesterday to give herself 17 this season, while
Abigail Lagos and
Lauryn Hardoy each have 15 tallies.
Anna Rulapaugh sits at 11 scores so far in her senior campaign. Hardoy also has 14 helpers, good for 2.00 per game, which ranks in the top-26 in the country.Â
Defensively, UIndy ranks as one of the best squads in the nation, led by underclassmen
Peyton Romig and
Riley McClure. Romig currently has won 77 draw controls and is securing 11.00 per game this season, second in the country. McClure, who has won 31 draw controls, also has a team-best 22 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers, which ranks in the top 10 among Division II players. Overall as a team, the Greyhounds have won over 70 percent of draw controls and have also out-shot their opponents, 267-120.Â
