OTTAWA, Ontario – UIndy women's lacrosse senior defender
Riley McClure earned a roster spot on the Canadian Women's Senior Field Lacrosse team, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Â
Of the 23 players on the roster, McClure is the lone NCAA Division II athlete listed. Twenty-one members compete at the NCAA Division I level, while one represents the University of Toronto.
Â
"I couldn't be more proud of Riley," UIndy head coach
James Delaney said of the senior defender. "She has put in the hard work to become one of the elite players in lacrosse."
Â
Canada will play multiple games this coming weekend, which will be streamed for free on the
Lax Sports Network. The team will battle with the United States on Friday night and then again on Saturday morning against the University of Maryland.
Â
Delaney continued: "There is no greater honor than representing your country. I know she will take great pride in wearing the maple leaf this weekend."
Â
McClure is UIndy's first All-America recipient in the program's four-year history. The Ancaster, Ontario native has capped each of the past two seasons with the honor after being dubbed the GLIAC Defender of the Year. McClure also holds program records for caused turnovers and ground balls in her three seasons.
