GRAND LAKES, Colo. - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its first in-season poll of the 2019 campaign on Monday afternoon, with the UIndy women's lacrosse squad moving up one spot to No. 11 from the preseason rankings.Â
The Greyhounds jumped to eighth in the US Lacrosse Magazine/Nike poll, their highest polling position in program history. UIndy was ranked No. 8 in each the IWLCA and US Lacrosse Magazine rankings in 2018.Â
UIndy cruised to its second victory to open the 2019 season last Saturday, as the Hounds handled visiting Charleston, 20-2, at Key Stadium.
Destinie Katz leads the team with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists, while
Grace Gunneson paces the Greyhounds with 10 goals. Returning All-American
Riley McClure has caused six turnovers and picked up five ground balls in the early going, both leading the team.Â
After an All-GLIAC honorable mention nod a season ago as a freshman,
Darby Smith has caused five turnovers and secured five draw controls herself through the team's two games. Rookie keeper
Cassidy King has also played well, allowing just five goals in 103 minutes of action.Â
The Hounds will travel to No.1 Le Moyne this Saturday for an 11 a.m. battle in Syracuse, N.Y. The Dolphins are coming off their first-ever national championship last May.
