INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced the final weekly awards of the softball season Monday, with the UIndy softball team garnered both honors. Sophomore
Gianni Iannantone was voted the GLVC Softball Player of the Week, and sophomore
Halie Waters was dubbed the GLVC Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Both student-athletes helped the Greyhound to a 3-1 weekend, clinching a share of the 2019 GLVC regular season championship. Iannantone up impressive numbers  at the plate with a .727 batting average, .769 on-base and 1.455 slugging, while Waters earned two complete-game wins in two appearances, compiling a 1.08 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 13 innings.
Â
A product of Orland Hills., Ill., Iannantone amassed eight hits, two doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs in four games. She capped a doubleheader sweep versus Bellarmine with her first collegiate grand slam on Saturday, and on her very next plate appear, crushed a three-run bomb in the first inning against 22nd-ranked Southern Indiana.
Â
This marks the first career GLVC weekly accolade for Iannantone, who now ranks second in the league in RBIs on the year (49).
Â
Waters was just as sharp in the circle, blanking Bellarmine on Saturday before besting the nationally-ranked Screaming Eagles and their GLVC Pitcher of the Year candidate Jennifer Leonhardt Sunday. Her performance versus Bellarmine finished as a one-hit shutout, as a single in the fourth yielded the Knights' lone base runner. She struck out seven batters in the six-inning contest, with the final out of the game – a fly ball to right – representing the only ball to get out of the infield.
Â
Waters, a native of Boonville, Ind., leads the GLVC in both wins (21) and saves (5) on the season, while ranking second in strikeouts (183) and third in ERA (1.61). She has won GLVC Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season, tying for the most in the league.
