Greyhounds Set to Host GLIAC Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS - After cruising through Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, the No. 11 UIndy women's lacrosse team has earned the right to host the league's postseason tournament on May 3-5. As the top seed, the Greyhounds will play the quarterfinal winner of Concordia-St. Paul (CSP) and Davenport on Friday at 4 p.m.

Grand Valley State wrapped up 2019 league play as the second seed, while McKendree will be the third seed. Northern Michigan snuck in as the sixth seed, and will travel to McKendree on Tuesday to determine who will play Grand Valley State on Friday night at 7 p.m.

This is the first time since the GLIAC began sponsoring the sport of women's lacrosse that a team other than Grand Valley State won the regular season. The Lakers had also claimed each of the tournament titles since the league's inception until McKendree in 2017. The Greyhounds hoisted the 2018 crown on the campus of Grand Valley State.

Grace Gunneson (93) and Destinie Katz (92) sit atop the conference rankings in points, while freshman goalkeeper Cassidy King led the GLIAC in save percentage (.534) and goals against average (4.80). Peyton Romig dominated the league on the draw, winning 48 more inside the circle than the next closest player in GLIAC contests, and 70 more in overall games.

UIndy leads all of NCAA Division II in scoring offense, scoring defense, draw controls per game, points per game, and assists per game, while King leads the country in goals against average and ranks third in save percentage.

The GLIAC quarterfinals kick off tonight to round out the semifinal group for this weekend's event. McKendree and Northern Michigan are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. tonight, with CSP and Davenport facing off at 7 p.m.
