EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The UIndy softball team enters the postseason this week, as the 2019
GLVC Championship Tournament kicks off Thursday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill. The Greyhounds (42-12, 20-6 GLVC) earned the two-seed in the eight-team, double-elimination bracket and are scheduled to open versus seventh-seeded Drury University on Friday at 3 p.m. ET, weather permitting.
Â
The Hounds racked up a 20-6 record in conference play to secure a share of the league's regular season title, marking their sixth regular season crown since 2010. However, Missouri-St. Louis also went 20-6 and earned the top seed via tiebreaker. Third-seeded Southern Indiana is the defending champion, breaking a string of six consecutive seasons that either UIndy or UMSL hoisted the GLVC Tournament trophy.
Â
Last year, UIndy came in as the No. 3 seed and dropped its opening-round game versus a red-hot USI club. The Hounds went on to win three straight elimination games, however, including getting a
no-hitter from
Lauren Honkomp, before eventually falling, 2-0, to UMSL in the conference semifinal.
