INDIANAPOLIS – Coming off back-to-back GLIAC titles, the UIndy women's lacrosse team has been chosen to finish second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) inaugural season, announced Friday. The Greyhounds received three first-place votes, while Lindenwood claimed the remaining four to edge UIndy in total points, 34-33.
Like UIndy, Lindenwood is coming to the GLVC with a wealth of success in another conference. In six years as a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), the Lions earned five league championships and advanced to the national semifinal four times.
Â
Rockhurst, McKendree and Lewis rounded out the top five, while Maryville (sixth) and first-year program Quincy (seventh) finish at the bottom of the preseason poll. See below for the complete list.
Â
UIndy has totaled 34 wins over its past two seasons, including a program-record 18 victories in 2019. The Greyhounds have earned a berth in each of the last two NCAA tournaments, bowing out in the opening round to Regis on both occasions. The Rangers, member of the RMAC, claimed the Midwest regional title in 2018 and 2019.
Â
The Greyhounds return a host of talented players, including attackers
Destinie Katz and
Grace Gunneson, along with 2018 all-region selection
Abigail Lagos. Two-time All-American
Riley McClure is back for her senior campaign, with reigning GLIAC Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Year
Cassidy King. Gunneson is UIndy's all-time leading point-getter, recording 212 tallies over her first three seasons.
Â
UIndy has six top-25 matchups scheduled this season, including four opponents ranked inside the IWLCA preseason top 10. The Greyhounds will battle No. 8 Florida Southern on Feb. 16 on the campus of Young Harris College.
