Romig Honored as National Player of the Week

NORTHBOROUGH, Ma. - After the No. 6 UIndy women's lacrosse team opened up the season with a home victory against No. 22 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears on a final score of 20-1, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) selected senior Peyton Romig as the DII Defensive Player of the Week.

"Peyton really paced the way in this past weekend's game and set the tone at the draw circle and all over the field for a big top-25 win." explains head coach James Delaney. "Once again, her draw control dominance only solidified why she is not only the best draw taker in the country, but one of the greatest draw takers of all time."

The Carthage, N.Y., native collects her second IWLCA DII Player of the Week honor, her first defensively. Romig's 12 draw controls set up a strong showing on offense for the Greyhounds, only allowing Concordia-St. Paul to collect three draw controls in the entire contest on Saturday. The senior also collected two ground balls and caused a turnover as well in the game.

"I couldn't have gotten this without my teammates," states midfielder Peyton Romig, "This past game was the first time we have been able to play as a team in almost a year. We've practiced against each other everyday, but playing against another team is very different. We came together and played as one, which was very exciting to see and I look forward to the rest of the season!"

Romig was previously honored as an IWLCA DII Offensive Player of the Week last season after scoring her fourth goal 43 seconds into a double-overtime victory against No. 8 Florida Southern. Romig also recorded 14 draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball in the contest.

The Greyhounds will next take one one of the toughest teams in Division II, No. 4 Queens, on Saturday, Feb. 27. Romig and the Hounds will travel to Charlotte, NC for the contest, kicking off at 12 p.m.
