INDIANAPOLIS - The
sixth-ranked UIndy women's lacrosse team landed in the No. 2 spot in the 2021 Great Lakes Valley Conference's Preseason Poll, the league announced on Thursday. The poll was conducted by the conference's eight head coaches.
Lindenwood, who is ranked second in the DII preseason poll, received five first-place votes and 47 points overall, just barely edging the Greyhounds' 45 points and first-place nod. McKendree totaled 34 points for the third-place slot, with Rockhurst getting the fourth-place spot on 32 points. Lewis (23) and newcomer Missouri Western (20) were chosen as fifth and sixth, respectively, while Maryville (12) and Quincy (11) round out the rankings.
UIndy head coach
James Delaney enters his fourth season with the program on a current record of 41-7 with two straight NCAA tournament appearances. Prior to the 2020 season, the Hounds were able to secure back-to-back GLIAC titles in the
2018 and
2019 seasons. Three-time All-American
Riley McClure is set to return on defense, while all-region student-athletes
Grace Gunneson,
Abigail Lagos and
Peyton Romig are back on the field this season as well.
The 2021 GLVC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament will feature the top four programs determined by regular season standings. On the campus of McKendree University, the 2021 GLVC championship will be held from April 30 - May 2 at Leemon Field.
