NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - After winning their third ranked game of the 2021 season, the UIndy women's lacrosse team (5-0, 5-0 GLVC) earned their way up the runner-up spot in the recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II Coaches Poll, released Monday. The No. 2 Greyhounds hurdled now-No. 3 Adelphi, who has yet to play a game this spring. Monday's poll once again sets a new high for the Greyhounds, the No. 2 spot now being their highest all-time ranking in program history.
The Hounds' jump stems from their big road win against then-No. 10 Grand Valley State, ousting them on a tight score of 9-7. Sarah Klein was UIndy's top offensive performer, where she tallied five points with a team-high three assists and a pair of goals. Klein's goals game from three shots on goal, also earning a caused turnover and a ground ball in the process as well. UIndy was able to collect a season0high in ground balls in the contest as well, totaling 26 loose balls in the process.
The Greyhounds so far this season rank among the nation's best in several statistical categories, including the best scoring margin in Division II of 15.2 goals per game. One of the nation's premiere performers on both ends of the field, the Hounds hold the second spot in points per game (27.2) and third in scoring (18.8 goals per game), while defensively being a power-house as well with the second-best scoring defense (3.6 goals per game) and fourth in save percentage (60 percent). Peyton Romig continues to run title as the top-draw control player in Division II, ranking first in the nation with 11.4 draw controls per game, almost three more than the second-place student-athlete.
Despite jumping Adelphi on Monday, the No. 2 Greyhounds still remain behind Lindenwood, the new top-ranked team in Division II. Lindenwood has also matched UIndy's perfect season with a 5-0 record of their own, the Lions owning six first-place votes compared the the Hounds' four. No. 3 Aldephi had the most first-place votes out of any team with 14.
UIndy's game will feature their fourth different ranked opponent this season in No. 25 Colorado Mesa, hosting the contest at Key Stadium on an unconventional Tuesday afternoon match. That game will have the first draw control take place at 3 p.m.
