NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - After the No. 2 UIndy women's lacrosse team (6-0, 6-0 GLVC) took a win over their fourth-ranked opponent this season, the Greyhounds kept a top-two ranking in the recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II Coaches Poll, released Monday. UIndy's No. 2 spot remains the program's top mark in the all-time records for the second week in a row.
The Hounds downed the No. 25 Mavericks last Tuesday by double-digits, taking a season-high 57 shots to get a final score of 18-7. The Greyhounds had three different student-athletes with five points in the contest in Abigail Lagos (four goals, one assist), Sarah Klein (two goals, three assists) and Lauryn Hardoy (five goals) in Tuesday's contest, that total set as the game-high mark. Klein also collected a team-high six ground balls, Peyton Romig winning 13 draw controls to go along with her three assists as well. Cassidy King was the Hounds' protector at the net, the nine-save performance garnering her second GLVC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
The Hounds still boast the best scoring margin in Division II, outscoring their opponents by 14.5 goals per contest so far this season. UIndy also ranks among DII's top five in several other statistical categories; including scoring defense (third; 4.17 goals per game), draw controls per game (fourth; 17.67 DC's per game) and points per game (27 points per game). Romig still ranks as the top draw-control player in the nation for DII, averaging 11.67 draw controls per game in the team's six games so far this season. King also ranks with the third-best save percentage in DII, the junior collecting 59.3 shots heading towards the back of the net.
The Greyhounds still sit behind No. 1 Lindenwood, the Lions now as the top team in the nation for the second-straight week. The two programs are the only institutions in the top-25 that represent the GLVC, UIndy holding six first-place votes to Lindenwood's 12.
UIndy will only prepare for one contest this week, taking on the Lewis Flyers at Key Stadium this weekend. That home matchup will compete on Saturday, April 3, the first draw control flying up at 12 p.m.
