LAS VEGAS – UIndy senior
Erik Edwards broke a major school record and tied another, leading the Greyhounds to a third-place finish at the Las Vegas Desert Classic. Edwards kicked off his final NCAA spring season with an individual win, setting a new program record for 54-hole score while matching the school's single-round mark. The 14-team, 76-man tournament was held at Royal Links Golf Club in Las Vegas Sunday and Monday.
As a team, UIndy (279-283-300) finished Monday's two rounds at 14-under par, but the players battled a relentless wind on Tuesday as the Hounds eventually settled at -2 to take third place. The field featured some not-so-familiar-yet-tough competition, including Golfstats' No. 11-ranked Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 17 Colorado Mines and team-winner Central Missouri.
Edwards (65-67-71) started the event with an opening-round 65 to tie the UIndy 18-hole program record of -7, marking the sixth time a Greyhound shot seven-under par in a competition round. The Louisville, Ky., native when on to finish the tournament with a blistering score of 203, lowering the school's 54-hole record by two strokes.
