#2 Greyhounds Stack GLVC Postseason Awards

LEBANON, Ill. - During their preparation for the 2021 GLVC Women's Lacrosse Tournament, the No. 2 UIndy women's lacrosse team (12-1, 6-1 GLVC) were honored by the Great Lakes Valley Conference with five GLVC postseason awards and 13 student-athletes across all the All-GLVC team, the league announced on Friday.

The Greyhounds own five of the six major postseason honors, including Abigail Lagos as Attacker of the Year, Riley McClure as Defender of the Year, Peyton Romig as Midfielder of the Year, Cassidy King as the Goalkeeper of the Year and Sarah Klein as the Freshman of the Year. This marks the first season that the Hounds have collected five conference postseason awards and more than 12 All-Conference players in a single season.

"It's amazing to see our players recognized for their hard work that they put in to be some of the best players not only in the conference, but also in the country." explains head coach James Delaney. We took a lot of pride in being a complete team this year, and today's All-Conference selections truly tells the story."

Lagos kicks off the group with a league-leading 54 goals during the regular season, ranking fifth in all of Division II in that statistical category. The senior's 70 points would head the nation's leading offense, helping orchestrate almost 21 points per contest. The Windham, N.H. totaled five or more points during nine different games throughout the regular season, her top mark being the regular season finale against McKendree where she tallied nine points. Lagos earned GLVC Offensive Player of the Week one time this season (March 1) when the Greyhounds took down then-No. 4 Queens.

Romig once again paced the nation as Division II's best draw control collector, earning more draw controls than any other student-athlete in DII by around five and a half DCs per contest (13.46). The senior secured 41 points, 24 ground balls and caused 16 more turnovers during the regular season to garner GLVC Midfielder of the Year. Romig was able to snatch double-digit draws in nine of the team's 13 games this season, including a program-record 22 back on April 9 against Missouri Western State. Romig found her name on two Defensive Player of the Week honors throughout the season, the Carthage, N.Y. native was recognized by the league on April 12 and 19.

McClure earns her third conference Defender of the Year honor, adding this to the shelf with her two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The senior totaled 51 draw controls for the Hounds, adding 17 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers for the nation's best scoring defense. The Ancaster, Ontario's defensive performance this season was highlight by many moments, including limiting All-GLVC Erin McGuire from Lindenwood to only one goal in the two program's clash on April 22.

King sticks as the GLVC's first Goalkeeper of the Year, the junior previously collecting the GLIAC's major honor during the 2019 season. The Canadaigua, N.Y., product led all Division II student-athletes with only allowing 4.39 goals per game, helping push the nation's best scoring margin of 16.85 goals per contest. King allowed two or less goals on eight different occasions this spring for the Greyhounds, garnering the fifth-best save percentage in DII by stopping an average of 57.4 percent of shots thrown her way. The Greyhounds' goal keeper was named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, being recognized by the league this spring on March 1 and 29.

Klein garners the GLVC Freshman of the Year award after sealing a team-leading 24 assists, the redshirt freshman scored 34 goals for 58 points this season to push as UIndy's second-leading point total. The Baldwinsville, N.Y., product dished an assist in six GLVC games in the regular season, including three in four different non-conference contests while also collecting a season-high six ground balls against then-No. 25 Colorado Mesa. The attack/midfielder combo player earned GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors on March 22, where she scored a pair of goals and three assists in the win over then-No. 10 Grand Valley State.

UIndy led all GLVC programs with eight First Team selections, while two others were nodded as All-GLVC Second-Team picks with three Honorable Mentions. The Greyhounds held the only two unanimous nominations out of all the conference institutions, Romig and McClure being honored by every member in the GLVC. Romig also collects two All-GLVC First Team honors from the 2021 season, the first time the Hounds have had a student-athlete named to the First Team twice in a single season.

The Hounds will take on McKendree on Friday, April 30 for one of the semifinal games in the 2021 GLVC Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The two teams will face off in Lebanon, Ill. at 7:30 p.m. for a chance to compete in the GLVC Championship contest.
