Greyhounds Lead Midwest All-Region First Team Honors

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Shortly after leading all DII programs in USA Lacrosse Magazine's All-America list on Wednesday, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) pushed out their All-Region teams for Division II Women's Lacrosse in the 2021 season. Out of 128 student-athletes honored, the UIndy women's lacrosse team (14-2, 6-1 GLVC) found themselves heading the Midwest region with six First Team selections, the most in DII. The Hounds also were featured on the All-Region Second Team in the Midwest, totaling them to seven awards on Thursday afternoon.

The Greyhounds' three US Lacrosse Magazine All-American First Team student-athletes found their way on the Midwest's All-Region First Team; Abigail Lagos, Riley McClure and Peyton Romig all being selected on the roster. The trio now each hold GLVC Player of the Year honors, US Lacrosse Magazine All-America First Team selections and now All-Region Midwest First Team awards from the historic 2021 season.

The Hounds' placed three more student-athletes on the All-Region Midwest First Team list, two of the three making their way on the top team for the first time in their careers. Grace Gunneson coming off of a 47-goal season with 62 points overall. Gunneson led the team with four game-winning goals during the season, including scooping up 24 ground balls.

Cassidy King upgraded her 2019 IWLCA DII Midwest Second-Team honor by earning a First Team placement in the 2021, the Greyhounds' protector leading UIndy to their 14-2 season. King finished the season as Division II's top goalie in protecting the net, only allowing a league-leading 5.89 goals per contest while hosting a top-10 save percentage of 51.9-percent. The junior saved 80 shots from jumping into the goal while only allowing 74 to move past her.

Kara Antonucci was the final Hound to be selected on the All-Region Midwest First Team, the junior-transfer from Arizona State completing her first full season at UIndy with her inaugural selection on the Midwest team. The Lake Forest, Ill., native helped lead one of the most premiere defenses in DII, a team that featured the number on scoring defense in the nation, only allowing 5.31 goals per contest. Antonucci totaled 15 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls throughout the season.

Sarah Klein rounds out the All-Region Midwest selections for UIndy, the 2021 GLVC Freshman of the Year being placed on the Midwest's Second Team for the 2021 season. The redshirt freshman was second on the team in points this season, her 64 points coming from 40 goals and 24 assists in the team's 16 games.

"What an amazing day for our program to have these student-athletes recognized for their great performances throughout the entire 2021 season." praises head coach James Delaney, "To have a nation leading six players on the first team all region truly speaks the hard work these players have put in to be recognized as the best in the region and in the nation."
