INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference continued its academic awards week Wednesday, announcing 536 student-athletes as recipients of the GLVC Brother James Gaffney, FSC Distinguished Scholar Award, with 47 Greyhounds among the honorees.
 
Named after Brother James Gaffney FSC, former President of Lewis University for over 27 years and two-term Chair of the GLVC Council of Presidents, the award is presented annually to student-athletes competing in GLVC-sponsored sports who achieve a 4.0 GPA during the course of the academic year.  
 
UIndy's total of 47 represents its highest since the award's inception in 2017-18, surpassing its previous high of 39 set last year. The Hounds rank fourth among GLVC schools in 2020-21, trailing second-place Rockhurst by just two. The Greyhound softball and men's soccer teams each had five 4.0 students this past academic year, while men's cross country, women's soccer, volleyball and women's swimming & diving followed closely with four apiece.
