Six Greyhounds Earn IWLCA All-American Honors

NORTHBOROUGH, MA - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced the 2022 Division II All-American teams on Thursday with six Greyhounds earning the distinction of All-American.  First Team honors went to Kara Antonucci, Abigail Lagos, MeKayla Montgomery and Peyton Romig while Cassidy King and Sarah Klein earned Third Team honors.

A total of 21 institutions were represented on the teams with UIndy leading the nation with four First Team selections and six selections overall.  Eighteen All-American student-athletes will take the field this weekend at the NCAA National Championship in St. Charles, MO.

Senior Kara Antonucci brings home her first IWLCA All-America nod with First Team honors after being selected as the GLVC Defender of the Year just a few weeks ago.  Antonucci has an even 16 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers on the year while also sitting second on the team with 59 draw controls.  She's anchored the top defense in the nation, holding opponents to 5.33 goals per game.

Abigail Lagos repeats as an IWLCA First Team selection after another impressive season.  The New Hampshire native currently leads the Hounds in both goals (89) and assists (25), marking her first 100+ point season of her career.  She currently sits third in the nation in goals (89) and eighth in goals per game (4.19).

In her first year with the Greyhounds grad transfer Mekayla Montgomery has her third career All-America honor.  Her 1.38 caused turnovers per game ranked fourth in the GLVC this season.  She paces the Hounds with 29 caused turnovers on the year while adding 53 draw controls and 34 ground balls.  Offensively, the New Jersey native has added seven goals and two assists while going a perfect two-for-two on free position attempts.

Midfielder Peyton Romig goes back-to-back with IWLCA All-America First Team honors in her quest to defend her 2021 IWLCA National Player of the Year title.  The two-time GLVC Midfielder of the Year has racked up 236 draw controls on the year to reach 912 in her career.  She currently ranks third in Division II this season at 11.2 draw controls per game.  Romig has caused 21 turnovers on the year while adding 52 points off of 38 goals and 14 assists.  

In her final season donning the Crimson and Grey, Cassidy King brought home her second career All-America nod.  The 2022 GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year was credited with 3 wins this season after spending 633 minutes between the pipes.  King tallied a .553 save percentage and 4.83 goals against average.  Her career marks put her atop the UIndy record books in both goals against average (6.05) and save percentage (0.485).

Sarah Klein earned her first career All-America nod with Third Team honors.  Klein posted a standout sophomore campaign with 69 points off of 49 goals and 20 assists.  The Baldwinsville, NY native tallied 14 free position goals on the year while adding three game winners.  Klein boasted a shots on goal percentage of 71.5%.

The Hounds will make their first-ever NCAA semifinal apperance on Friday, facing Adephi at 8 pm ET in St. Charles, MO.
